This is a walk down one of Manchester's historic river valleys, the Medlock, into central Manchester. The walk is at times rural, urban, industrial and post-industrial, with Manchester’s past, present and future on view.
The walk begins at Daisy Nook Country Park (which we’ll walk around) and then we’ll follow the Medlock all the way into Manchester centre, following the Hollinwood canal (now disused), Oldham Way, Clayton Vale Park, Philips Park / Sports City, Ashton and Rochdale Canals and into the Northern Quarter of Manchester. There are toilet facilities at Daisy Nook.
This is another good winter walk, with very little mud, no fields and no stiles. There is very little ascent, and the walk slowly descends about 200 feet as we walk into Manchester.
We will take the train from Crewe (09:32 pm) to Manchester Piccadilly, and then catch the 230 / 231 bus (from Ancoats High St) to Daisy Nook Country Park.
We will lunch at the Pen and Pencil pub on Hilton Street in the Northern Quarter (see attached web link), where you can see their brunch / lunch menu. Please note that you will need to alert me no later than 25th Feb with your food choices for lunch.
I would appreciate those coming on this walk to advise me by 23rd February.
Following lunch we will return to Manchester Piccadilly for the return train back to Crewe.
