Join us for this beginners walk and a brilliant time to get out in nature and start your New Years resolutions with this walk. The walk will start from the the ruins of Neath Abbey, a CADW Site (free entry), before heading to the old Iron works, through some local woods and to some small waterfalls. The majority of the walk will be on woodland paths, but there will be some road walking and places we have to cross over. Dogs are welcome, but will be need to be on leads on certain sections, and along the road.
Please note that some of the paths are muddy and can be slippery, good footwear is advisable. There will be sections where tree roots are exposed and the path will narrow down to single file along with crossing the river along some metal bridges.
There will be an opportunity to stop at a local cafe in Bryncoch, just around the midway point where we can have a coffee and a chat if we want.
The walk is approximately 5 miles long and should take around 2.5 - 3 hours to complete. Due to the two historical sites, it may take longer depending how long we want to spend there. There is no rush so we can take as long was we want.
Walkers will get to see Neath Abbey and get close and personal with the Neath Abbey Iron Works, where the remains of the 18th Century blast furnaces servive.
The woodland paths will lead us up to a local cafe, where coffee, tea, soft drinks can be purchased along with the usual cakes.
We will then re trace our steps to a small local waterfall in the Longford area before heading back to the Abby to finish the walk.
