An easy walk of around 12 miles with gentle undulations, lovely views and ancient forests.
The walk may be quite muddy in places – wear appropriate footwear.
The walk is quite exposed in places – remember your waterproofs.
We will stop for lunch – bring a packed lunch.
We meet at the Abbots Well car park in Frogham and head north-east along Hampton Ridge stopping to admire the WW2 bomber direction arrow close to our path. Soon we head off the main path onto a smaller muddier track via Coopers Hill and The Butts where we enter the woods to Studley Castle, the site of a Royal Hunting Lodge. We drop South through the woods to Fritham where we will have a well-deserved lunch break having covered some 7.5 miles. After lunch we head south west across Fritham Plain then cut into Sloden Inclosure where we will enjoy the lovely ancient trees around ‘The Churchyard’, the site of another royal hunting lodge. The walk continues along the path through Hasley Inclosure then heads north back to our start.
We should finish by around 2:45pm.
Note: our group walks quite briskly; while this route isn’t demanding of terrain or distance, if you have any concerns about fitness/capability please contact the walk leader in advance.
