What better way to start the New Year than with a hilly walk, taken at moderate pace, in the heart of Mole Valley, with various length options? You could make this the second of five consecutive days walking with MVR to get your walking in 2025 off to a fine start!
This revised walk will begin from Denbies vineyard, gathering near the electric charging points. From there we set out across the vineyard on the Greenway, skirting the base of Ranmore on the Pilgrim’s Way, avoiding any steep ascents. Then a slight down and up to cross the valley before we rise again, with a short sharp pull up to the Temple on the Nower for our coffee stop. Some careful wriggling will get us to the Glory Wood, another wonderful area of protected woodland, before we take some back paths through Dorking. This is where you could strike north if wanting a shorter 8 mile route. Otherwise, we shall head out eastwards to Betchworth Park for picnic stop, then crossing the A25 to follow the River Mole, skirting Box Hill (no full ascent on this walk, but a few steps down). Crossing the river by the bridge will allow us to follow the North Downs Way back to the vineyard.
Bring hot drinks, plenty of refreshments and a packed lunch.
