This circular walk leaves Pateley Bridge and follows footpaths to join the Nidderdale Way near Eagle Hall.
On the Nidderdale Way is the site of Merryfield Mines which provide a marvellous insight into the dale’s
important lead mining past. The now ruined Prosperous Smelt Mill is one of the major sites.
The route then follows Ashfield Side Beck and reaches the village of Heathfield with its tiny Tin Chapel.
Weather permitting, the walk offers sweeping views down-dale to Pateley Bridge and Guise Cliff.
After descending to Wath Bridge, the walk then returns to Pateley Bridge via the Nidderdale Way much of which follows an old railway line used in the construction of Scar House and Angram Dam up the dale.
