Craven Ramblers’ rail ramble includes a 7 mile moderate walk that it is intended to be followed by a special 2 course meal at the Royal Oak at Appleby. Pre-booking is required for both the walk and the meal via Andrew on 07730 718205 or andrewgold@live.co.uk
Train times are provisional based on 2024 and will be updated for 2025 winter timetable when confirmed. Menu and meal price to be confirmed in first quarter of 2025 too.
Pending Northern Rail’s confirmation of their timetable after 14 December 2024, based on the current timetable the 9.09 all stations from Leeds (leaving Skipton at 9.57) is due to arrive at Appleby Railway Station at 11.17 where this circular led walk starts as soon as possible after arrival.
The 7 mile circular led walk leaves Appleby Railway Station and ultimately takes us to Flakebridge Woods where it is envisaged that the bluebells in those woods should be resplendent at that time of year.
For previous Rail Rambles, the Royal Oak at Appleby have offered us a special menu for a 2 course meal. The meal would be served at 15.00 enabling us to leave by 16.15 for a circa 20 minutes walk to the station.
That enables attendees to catch the train leaving Appleby at 16.44 for certain stations to Leeds, including due to arrive at Skipton 17.57 and Leeds at 18.35.
All menu choices and payment for meals to be provided to Andrew Gold before the day of the Rail Ramble.
This walk is not suitable for dogs.
Sometimes due to unforeseen events or well publicised bad weather, walks cannot go ahead. If a walk has to be cancelled this will be publicised here against the walk details. If you are planning to attend this walk please check that it is proceeding before setting off to the start point on the morning of the walk.
