A 10-mile circular walk from Oaks Wood, nr Pontesbury, to Lyth Hill, where we will stop for lunch and hopefully be treated to some far-reaching views of the South Shropshire Hills. This walk has been rated strenuous more for distance than ascent, although there are a couple of short, sharp climbs along the way. We will take it at a steady pace. If the thought of 10-miles is a little daunting, hopefully the knowledge of a pint, food and warm fire at the end will spur you on 🍺🥧🔥
The walk will start from Oaks Wood and head east towards the Longden Manor Estate. From here we will swing south east towards Exfords Green, before commencing the ascent towards Lyth Hill, where we stop for lunch roughly halfway into our trek.
After lunch we will briefly head north, before we turn tail and pick up the Shropshire Way, which will take us back towards the Longden Manor Estate. Having left the Estate, we will head south east and re-enter Oaks Wood, exiting alongside the Lyd Hole waterfall, which we will stop to explore. From here it is just a short walk back to our starting point.
Please note, in the event of poor weather, this walk will be replaced with a 4-5 mile walk around Pontesford & Earls Hill. The meeting point and time will remain unchanged.
A packed lunch is recommended. There will be a break in the morning, and a lunch break midway through the walk.
There is the option of drinks and food afterwards at the Nag's Head in Pontesbury, a short drive from the walk start point. Feel free to check out their menu and let me know if you would like to join us for food when signing on - it is a popular pub, so I will aim to book a table.
Car sharing should be available, details of which will be shared nearer the time.
Message the walk leader via text or WhatsApp to book a place on this walk.
