We begin with a short walk along the road to reach Ogmore Down, from where we have views over Ogmore Castle and the Merthyr Mawr warren. We will have our coffee break at Ogmore Castle and then walk through the dunes along the river estuary to the coast. We follow the coastal path to Dunraven Bay (toilets here), where we will have lunch. From there we go on to the ruins of the walled garden and have a gradual short ascent to the castle ruins, where there are great views along the coast. We descend to Dunraven Bay and then climb up steadily through a wooded valley and cross fields back to St Brides Major.
This scenic walk includes Ogmore Down, Ogmore castle and the river estuary, part of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, the walled gardens and ruins of Dunraven Castle, and finally a wooded valley back to St Brides Major.
At present there is no squelchy mud on the route. However, if it rains between now and Sunday, there will be some in a couple of places, in which case gaiters are advised. There are very few stiles, but there is a stone and metal one at the end, which a dog would need to be lifted over.
