There's an "Old North Road" on the information boards in Pitlochry, lower than the Bealach Path but higher than the riverside walk. It turns out to be a nice walk mostly on forestry tracks. After lunch at the NTS Visitor Centre, we will return to Pitlochry on the opposite bank of the Garry, with some road walking on very quiet roads, and some walking on a nice path by the river, crossing the Tummel by the Millennium suspension bridge and then following the road back towards the dam and over it back to Pitlochry.
There's quite a lot of up and down on this walk, but it's not as high or nearly as exposed as the Bealach Path. This walk leader did it in 4 hr 45 on the recce, so it's possible the group might do it in 5 1/2 and make the 1620 train, but we might be looking at the 1735 one.
The intent is to do this one by train to avoid long drives on a shortening day. However if people want to arrange lifts between themselves, they can park down at the dam visitor centre and meet the walk leader off the train.
The 08.58 train out of Lenzie should reach Pitlochry at 10.31
let's call this a B+ for local grading
There is a change of train at Stirling in both directions
Outbound train arrives Stirling 09:26, and departs at 09:31.
Return trains from Pitlochry are at 16:20, 17:35 and 19:05
People who aren't coming from Kirkintilloch could get a direct train from Glasgow, or a bus or car, whatever gets you to Pitlochry for 10:30.
