Overview

We take the G23 bus to Barmouth. We cross the Pont Abermaw bridge over the estuary. £1 toll - pay by cash or with a smart phone. We walk along the Mawddach Trail to Dolgellau. This is a near level walk following the track bed of the former Great Western railway, alongside the estuary. One of Julia Bradbury's "Railway Walks". We return by the 15.05 T2 Traws Cambria bus towards Bangor via Porthmadog or the 15.03 or T3 bus tfrom Barmouth. Both leave from Eldon Square in Dolgellau. Toilets at Penmaenpwll (6 ½ miles) and Dolgellau. Toilet at Morfa Mawddach was closed in February but might be open in April. Cafes in Dolgellau if we arrive in good time for the bus. It may be possible to leave the group at Penmaenpool and get a bus to Dolgellau in time to catch the T2 or T3 around 15.00. Bus travel will be free with a Wales Bus Pass. Bus pass will NOT give free travel on the Cambrian Coast line after the end of March. Advance tickets or railcards or both may be cheaper than standard single fare. Alternatives:- 10.01 T3 bus from Dolgellau. Arrives Barmouth at 10.27. Meet group at Barmouth bus stop. Cambrian Coast railway. Meet group at Morfa Mawddach station. Train from Pwllheli via Criccieth and Porthmadog should arrive at 11.07. Please contact leader if you will be joining the group at Barmouth or Morfa Mawddach Grade D 9.5 miles ascent 0m
