Our journey takes us along the South Tyne valley, a historic navigation route celebrated today by the presence of three trails.
The route follows the South Tyne Trail from Slaggyford to Lintley Halt, where we join the Pennine Way and the Pennine Journey and head north to Williamston Bridge. We cross the river and follow an ancient bridleway along the eastern side of the valley, all the while enjoying fine views over the South Tyne river. After passing 'The Bog', we reach the hamlet of Eals and recross the river at Glendue Wood. We return via Burnstone and Knarsdale on the Pennine Journey and Pennine Way.
