We are the Ponteland Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
River Wear and Penshaw Monument. From Cox Green the walk follows the river to Fatfield where we cross to the southern banks, circuiting Mount Pleasant Park Lake before continuing East until the river is left behind as Penshaw Hill is ascended. After following the ridgeline to Offerton village, we descend back down to river to make our way back to start point.
Mixture of well defined paths,( asphalt, gravel, field,riverbank, Bridle). Also short road stretch. Generally flat apart from Gentle incline up Penshaw hill with two short steeper flights of steps to the summit. Part of descent also includes long flight of wide asphalt steps to the river. Some low stiles. Grade: Moderate.

Directions to start point: Reminder that both the Tyne Bridge and Tyne Tunnel have traffic restrictions in place causing considerable delays. Please therefore use A1 to access the area. Leave the southbound A1 at Washington services, SP Washington South A195. Continue East along A195(Western highway). Stay on A195 through roundabouts SP Fatfield/ Barmston. Continue on in direction of Barmston still on A195. At roundabout SP Pattinson Industrial Estate/Wetland centre/James Steel Park, take the second exit right. Now on Pattinson road, at next roundabout SP Riverside /James Steel Park, take third exit right. Follow this road until it comes to an abrupt end, with a single lane off to the right, take this and also the immediate turn to the left in front of the tall hedge, which will take you down to the carpark. Aprox. travel time from Ponteland 30 mins.
