River Wear and Penshaw Monument. From Cox Green the walk follows the river to Fatfield where we cross to the southern banks, circuiting Mount Pleasant Park Lake before continuing East until the river is left behind as Penshaw Hill is ascended. After following the ridgeline to Offerton village, we descend back down to river to make our way back to start point.
Mixture of well defined paths,( asphalt, gravel, field,riverbank, Bridle). Also short road stretch. Generally flat apart from Gentle incline up Penshaw hill with two short steeper flights of steps to the summit. Part of descent also includes long flight of wide asphalt steps to the river. Some low stiles. Grade: Moderate.
