Join us for a pre-Christmas walk from Rothbury. Leaving the town on St. Oswald's Way, we head to the Bronze Age site of Lordenshaws, where we can see the remains of hill forts and some excellent examples of early rock art [cup and ring marks] dating from 2000 BC. We then walk on to the Simonside ridge, taking the chance to admire the superb views across Coquetdale and the Cheviot Hills. We end the walk with a descent through woods to the small settlement of Great Tosson (with its 15th-century tower and quaint houses) and follow the bank of the River Coquet into Rothbury.
The terrain is mostly good with paved sections, well-marked paths and simple boulder climbs. A short downhill section through woodland close to the end of the walk is likely to be muddy and slippy underfoot.
Advance booking is required for this walk. To reserve your place, please e-mail the walk leaders, Miriam and John, through the contact box above - and remember to include your mobile number in the mail.
Booking opens on Monday, 16th December.
