This is a varied walk passing alongside arable farmland and pasture, and through deciduous woodland. Starting at Rowland's Castle the walk proceeds Northwards up Bowes Hill and along Wellsworth Lane to the village of Finchdean. From there we embark on a steady climb up to Oxleys Copse, followed by a steep descent to Heberdens and a gentle climb up to St Hubert's Church. Turning South we pass the reinstated dew pond and Old Idsworth icehouse, climbing to reach South Holt Farm. From there we go to Woods Copse, cross the Deanlane End to Forestside Road, and drop down to the Staunton Way footpath. We then follow the Staunton Way all the way back to Rowland's Castle.
Parking at the Rowland's Castle recreation ground (where public toilets are available) is advised. Parking around The Green is also possible, though restrictions along the South side are now being enforced. There are one or two stiles and some kissing gates, but nothing out of the ordinary. Conditions underfoot are not too muddy, but the use of walking poles is recommended to help avoid slips and trips. There will be breaks for morning coffee and for a packed lunch. The Bumblebee Cafe is available for post-walk refreshments.
