A pleasant 5.5 mile circular walk through farmland south of Consett, crossing over the impressive Hownsgill viaduct.
The walk is primarily on railway paths and quiet roads.
The route starts off mainly flat and then progresses slightly downhill approximately half way round. There are 2 steep inclines towards the end of the walk.
After crossing over the Hownsgill viaduct we pass by Middle Heads farm and into a field, which is likely to be muddy at its start and end.
There is one gate to pass through at the end of the field. There are no stiles. There may be cows in this field
The Old Mill pub/restaurant and also Knitsley Farm shop/tea room are near the end of the walk, for refreshments and toilet.
