Overview

This walk takes you from Shoreham church, past houses where the artist Samuel Palmer lived ,and features familiar to him, along beside the river to Lullingstone country park. We will stop at the popular cafe for refreshments and toilets.

The route then climbs up through woodlands and circles back to Shoreham  along the high side of the valley, with lovely views.

The walk is 5.3 miles long, with one moderately steep climb up after the cafe stop.

The Samuel Palmer trail is one of the Darent Valley Trails available as a free phone app.

If you download the app you can listen to information about the artist's work and life and see some of his pictures. He was quite a romantic when young, and he and his friends thought Shoreham was a rural paradise. Sadly his work was unappreciated in his lifetime like many artists!
