UPDATE 13.3.2025:
OK so I've recce'd a route now.... unusually for a Godshill walk, not including either the Donkey Sanctuary or the Freemantle Arch, lovely as they are (sorry if you were particularly after either of those - next time !) but this is a new angle for me on Godshill, and it does make for a (mostly) flat and easy social walk...
We will (unless weather intervenes - at present the mud is minimal) head up through the woods behind the Griffin Inn (a bit uphill but not at any great speed - you know me...) ... headed towards Sainham Farm ... then there is a stretch of road-walking (pretty quiet but obviously take care) along Sheepwash Lane and along to the lovely old Godshill church.... back down to, and crossing, the main road and then on to the Gift for Nature site at Munsley Bog (the existence of which I only recently discovered myself) where we can stop with the troll for a drinks/snack stop, then back along the old railway and Great Budbridge Manor, meeting up with the Stenbury/River Yar trail back into Godshill via Moor Farm. Nothing too tricky, and big hills, so not promising spectacular far-reaching views, but some nice rural countryside, mostly decent surfaces (minimal mud at time of recce), and plenty of yummy cake (or pub) options at the end - what's not to like for a Sunday social ?
I measured it at just under 5 and a half miles
2 stiles
Toilets at the start/end, but none en route
This is a 'save-the-date ' entry in the programme. It will be updated nearer the time. I'm not yet entirely sure what our route will be, and it will probably be familiar to many. of you. But basically it will be circular, leisurely and roughly five miles and will doubtless be a highly enjoyable and sociable walking experience, weather permitting. Plus we end up back in Godshill where there is a choice of food/drink venue options if wished.
Meet at the main Old Smithy carpark at 10.30am.
By public transport there are numbers 2 and 3 buses to Godshill.
In the interests of the air, parking, and non-drivers, if anyone is able to offer, or needs, a carshare then please post on WhatsApp group (to join group please message Serena 07564-811690).
New walkers welcome. If you are new to the Ramblers you can just turn up for any of our walks, unless we specify otherwise. We invite you to come along for three walks as a non-member.
