This first leg of the South Downs Way National trail starts at Winchester's City Mill, via Chilcomb, ascending to Cheesefoot Hill, then along a variety of tracks along to Beacon Hill Beeches (10.8miles, 1109ft ascent, 583ft descent). The South Downs Way is hilly by its nature, paths are in good condition.
The coach leaves at 9.00am promptly from The Shire Horse Pub car Park, Bath Road, LittleWick Green. Please car share where possible and park at the far right hand side of the car park. Arrive to allow time to boot up, pre-order pub dinner and pay for your coach trip.
Bring suitable outdoor walking clothes and sturdy boots, which you should be wearing as you board the coach. Please bring a packed lunch and drink for the day, as there are no opportunities to buy refreshments. For those new to long distance walking, please take note of the distance and ascent.
It is estimated that the coach will arrive back at the Shire Horse at 7.00pm, in time for those wishing to dine.
