Walking in East Berkshire
We are an inclusive, friendly walking group for people of all ages that offers a broad and varied walks programme for those with different levels of fitness and ability. Most of our walks take place on Wednesdays and Sundays in and around Berkshire including the Chiltern Hills and along the Thames.
We usually have both a short walk and a longer walk every Wednesday and every Sunday. Our short walks are up to 5 miles and longer walks are up to 12 miles, occasionally more. We also have a programme of shorter walks – Strollathons – of up to 2 miles, for the less able. These are usually held on Thursdays.
New walkers are very welcome to join us for a walk or two before becoming members. We welcome under 18s and vulnerable adults accompanied by an adult.
Our walking group
Our walks programme provides the opportunity to meet new friends, keep fit and enjoy our countryside throughout the seasons. Apart from our regular walks programme, we also organise coach visits further afield and full board holiday breaks in other parts of the country.
All members are encouraged to suggest new walks and to become walk leaders. The Group has been responsible for extending and improving the network of paths in our area and beyond. We take an active part in path maintenance through our team of volunteer Path Wardens who monitor the state of paths, carry out minor path maintenance tasks where possible and report problems requiring greater resources to the Rights of Way department of our local borough council.
