We are the Southwell Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
This is a leisurely 9 mile walk starting at Spalford Warren Nature Reserve, following a meandering route by road, footpath and country lane, to North Clifton, location of the beautiful Japanese Garden created by the Buddha Maitreya. From here we follow the riverside path with views of High Marnham Power Station cooling towers on the opposite bank. We follow the river to South Clifton and then complete the circle along field paths and rural lanes.
Please note that we will walk through some areas, including a couple of stiles/gates, that are overgrown with nettles and brambles, therefore shorts are not recommended!
Please contact the Leader to let them know that you are coming on the walk. Please leave your name, contact telephone number and email address. Please also state whether you intend going to the designated meeting place or directly to the start of the walk. This will help ensure that you are not left behind. This should not be regarded as "booking a place".
If you later find that you cannot come on the walk, please notify the Leader as soon as possible in order that the group is not waiting for you to arrive on the day.
There will be refreshment stops and a lunch-time break, so bring some food and drink.

Southwell Leisure Centre Long Stay car park, (off A612) Nottingham Road, Southwell. Please park in the lower car park as the long stay car park closes early on Sundays.
Spalford Warren Nature Reserve car park, off the A1133 (Gainsborough Road), 3 miles north of Besthorpe. About 2 miles north of Besthorpe turn right into Nottinghamshire Nature Lakes, follow this road for 500 metres and then turn left on to a track indicating Spalford Warren Nature Reserve. Carry on up this track until you reach the second cattle grid. This is the Nature Reserve car park. If you miss the turn off the A1133, turn right at the next turn, Sand Lane, directing you to Spalford. Follow this road to a fork and keep to the right and follow Rabbithill Lane to the Nature Reserve car park. This is a rougher road than the earlier one.
