Walking in and around Southwell
Southwell Ramblers is a small friendly group within the area of Nottinghamshire. We go out of our way to make newcomers feel welcome, whether they be members of the Ramblers from another group or just “moved in” to Southwell and looking for groups to join.
We offer weekly walks making full use of the varied and interesting countryside of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and occasionally Staffordshire and Rutland.
Even within a short radius of Southwell there are hills and fields, woods, rivers and dumbles, parks and country estates steeped in history back to the Romans and beyond.
We always meet up and share transport when the walk start point is further afield. Our walk leaders can always be guaranteed to share interesting historical or environmental information about the area associated with the walk.
You can even try us out before you formally commit and join the Ramblers.
Our walking community
Our walks are graded Leisurely to Strenuous based on terrain and the distance covered. We alternate between shorter walks (5miles or less) and longer walks (8 or 9 miles, occasionally longer).
Our walk leaders are all experienced and are the point of contact when registering for a walk. Their contact details together with walk details are displayed on our website [link], www.southwellramblers.org.uk .
As a member of our group, you will be able to participate in our social programme including a summer BBQ and Christmas fuddle. We also organise two short breaks, one in the Spring and one in the early autumn to areas such as the Brecon Beacons, Yorkshire Dales and the South Downs.
The only dogs we allow on our group walks are Registered Assistance Dogs.
We look forward to welcoming you on our next walk. Please visit our website [link]and make contact. You won’t regret it!
