An interesting circular walk, starting in the pretty village of Stanton, walking through woodland, countryside and the beautiful village of Stanway.
We will follow the Cotswold Way up Shenberrow hill (approximately 750 ft/230m in 1.5 miles) before crossing farmland and descending through Lidcombe Wood into Stanway. After a short walk along the road, we re-join the Cotswold Way, walking past Stanway House and across open countryside back to Stanton.
There is an interesting information hut in Lidcombe Wood and we will take a slight detour to look at Stanway cricket pavilion, which was gifted by J M Barrie in the 1920s and sits on straddlestones.
The paths are reasonable, although sections could be muddy and the descent is uneven. There is a hill at the beginning of the walk, we will ascend this slowly, taking breaks as we go.
There are two stiles, both with hatches for dogs to go through.
Please remember to wear layers and ensure that you have a waterproof, plenty of water and enough snacks with you. Sturdy walking footwear is necessary for this walk. As part of the walk is uneven, a walking pole will be useful.
Note, the B4632 is closed near Toddington, but it is possible to reach Stanton using the B4632 from Broadway.
Parking – there is free parking available in Stanton Village Car Park. If this is full, please park considerately on the street or in the Stanton Village Club (at the back of the Stanton Village Car Park, donation requested)
Note, If the weather is wet, we will take an alternative route down the hill, this will add half a mile to the length of the walk.
