Summerhill to Elwick
A moderate, circular, 8 mile, walk, starting from Summerhill Country Park, on the western edge of Hartlepool, at 10.45am (to allow for the extra travel) . The walk has a mixture of good paths, open fields and some unavoidable, but quiet, road walking, taking in the lovely villages of Dalton Percy and Elwick. The ground was good during the recce, but there could be some muddy patches, depending on any rain beforehand. There are also likely to be some livestock so "no dogs" please.
Beginning with a walk through the Country Park (where there are toilets available before we start), we then have a short spell on Brierton Lane before turning North West and commencing a steady, comfortable, ascent to Dalton Percy following good paths and field edges. From here, we continue our steady, but easy, ascent towards Elwick to look out for Dave Marshall....as the sign that a lunch stop is nearby! After lunch, we continue north, through fields and over some tall stiles, before emerging on to a stretch of quiet road for a while and begin a steady descent. We turn East through fields to the suburbs of West Park (nice houses here), passing the entrance to Ward Jackson park on our left, and head south back to Summerhill Country park.
Dave Marshall will kindly be enabling the option of short walk to be available.
