From Goring station the walk drops down to the River Thames and initially follows the NE bank. There's will be good views of the river for the first 2mls before entering woodland. On reaching Whitchurch on Thames (4.8mls) we will cross over to Pangbourne and follow the SW bank closely through open countryside untill we reach the Purley on Thames lock (7.2mls). Here we must walk away from the river through an urban area for about 30mins before returning to the river (8.6mls). As the walk approaches Reading the path joins the Reading promenade and passes under the Caversham bridge before crossing the river close to the train station (12.0mls).
The walk is largely level except for two short inclines/ declines not far from the start. Good views of the river and hills behind can be expected for the majority of the walk.
Bring a picnic lunch and refreshments. At Purley Lock there is a cafe which we may use. Similarly there will be cafes in Pangbourne & Reading but not reccied.
No toilets on train Reading to/from Goring so use Reading station facilities.
Meet either at Basingstoke train station at 0835h to catch 0849h train to Reading. Then catch 0923h train to Goring & Streatley, arriving 0935h.
