Overview

This walk starts in Tipton St John and then follows the river Otter till the outskirts of Ottery St Mary. We then make our way through woods and open fields with one steep ascent, (strenuous) to White Cross with its stunning views. We will then make our way to Beacon Hill with its views across Sidmouth before heading through Harpford Wood to rejoin the river.

For those wanting to do the shorter version of the walk, you can return along the river to the start. For those wanting a little more, there is an extra 3 mile loop along the river and around the outside of Newton Poppleford.

This walk is rated moderate as it’s mostly flat or gentle hills. There is one big ascent up to White Cross that is quite demanding.

The route can be muddy in places so good footwear required.
