Overview

We walk from Upavon along the infant river Avon.  We then walk a short road section to the pretty church at North Newnton and continue to Manningford Bohune.  After crossing the main road we ascend gently onto the Downs where extensive views are to be hoped for.  We return to Upavon, behind the Trenchard lines, and down Chismans Cleeve.   The route uses, footpaths, tracks, bridleways and a short section of road.  There are no steep ascents but there is long steady ascent with good footing.   The descent is steep in parts.   Expect some stiles and possible mud.

Please bring lunch and refreshments.  Sticks may also be useful.  There may be livestock enroute.
