We are the Balerno Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
Bookended by the grand Callendar House and the engineering feat of the Falkirk Wheel the walk goes through woodland, open grassland and along sections of the Union Canal and Forth and Clyde Canal with good views north over the Forth Valley to the Ochils.
Route – Callendar Park path from Callendar House, link through to the Union Canal, into Bantaskine and Tamfourhill Woods (south of canal), rejoin canal and arrive at Falkirk Wheel via the Roughcastle Tunnel, return by Forth and Clyde Canal and link from Camelon to Union Canal and Callendar Park.
Length: 9.5 mls Ascent: 70 m on moderate inclines Paths and tracks throughout – compacted stone, canal towpath and short lengths of pavement

MEET AT 9:30 FOR START OF WALK at Callendar House car park. From Edinburgh, follow M9 westbound, exit at junction 5 and follow brown tourist signs for Callendar House. From Glasgow and north, follow M9 eastbound, exit at junction 6 and follow brown tourist signs for Callendar House. By public transport from Edinburgh, X 38 bus alight at Callendar Business Park/Graeme High School stop. Train to Falkirk High Station and pick up signs.
