Meet at Redhill station, with ticket (Travelcard recommended), in time to catch the 09:15 Thameslink service to Blackfriars (usually platform 2) where we change to the eastbound District Line to Upminster at the end of the line! From Upminster we have some pavement walking, passing the windmill, to reach the Ingrebourne Valley, Hornchurch Country Park. Easy walking on good paths alongside the river to reach the Visitor Centre (should be hot drinks and toilets here) where we can have our picnic lunch. We then continue alongside the river and its wetlands, investigate the Tett Turrett and other military sites before some more pavement walking to reach the pretty village of Rainham and its station for the return journey.
No stiles, 2 - 2.5 mph (our usual pace) with some pauses for information, bird spotting etc. If meeting us at Upminster please text Anne on 07950 926132 and we can keep you informed on any train issues. Come self-sufficient in food and water, but hot drinks should be available en route. Assistance dogs only. No finishing time given but we should be back in Redhill mid afternoon.
