Overview

A summer walk across the North Yorkshire Moors, offering a variety of terrain from forest tracks and open moorland. There are wide ranging views over the moors, pretty valleys and forested areas, with a good chance of seeing a number of steam trains.

The route is down to Needle Point, up North Dale and Northdale Scar, and across open moorland to Simon Howe Rigg. From this elevated viewpoint we take a path across the Moors to Wardle Green, and down through the forest to Newton Dale Station. There follows a steep ascent up to Hudson's Cross and a climb back up to the starting point at the Hole of Horcum.

There are a number of very steep ascents and descents on this walk and it is graded 'Moderate Plus' Following heavy rain, some of the paths may be very slippery and muddy.
