11/3/2025 - THE WALK HAS NOW GOT THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS, AND THE LIST IS CLOSED.
13/03/2025 - I walked over the route today, and due to recent dry weather conditions, most of the mud along the Medway section is drying out quite nicely. Although there are a few wet patches, the overall condition of the ground for walking is good. THERE IS A VERY MUDDY AREA AT THE FINAL EXIT GATE ON THE WAY BACK TO WATERINGBURY STATION.
A walk through the scenic Medway Valley area of Kent. We start from Wateringbury station, reaching Nettlestead, where we continue along the banks of the Medway river, to the medieval Teston Bridge. Continuing through fields and pastures, we arrive at Farleigh Green for lunch. There are facilities here for picnickers, with benches and tables on the Green. If anyone requires a pub lunch, there is The Good Intent pub adjacent to the picnic area. This is a small venue, with an appetizing, but somewhat limited menu. However, I have consulted with the management, and they will be glad to cater for a group of six people, so if anyone wants to have a pub meal, please email me, again by Friday 7th March. After that date, it will be for individuals to make their own arrangements by phone to the pub on 01622 812426.
After lunch we resume the walk through pathways and woodland, to East Farleigh village, and cross another medieval bridge. This one is quite narrow, with no pavement, and has to be shared with through traffic, so although safe to negotiate, care will need to be taken for this short stretch. Anyone wishing to finish the walk can get a train from East Farleigh station to Paddock Wood for connections back to London. (Having completed approximately 7.5 miles of the walk)
We will then continue through woodland, and some orchards, eventually reaching Tutsham Farm, a riding school for disadvantaged and vulnerable children and young people. From Tutsham, it's a short walk back to Wateringbury Station.
1. There are some areas of road/hard surface walking along the route, with one short stretch without a pavement.
I WILL AWAIT ARRIVAL OF THE GROUP AT WATERINGBURY STATION
There are no toilet facilities at Wateringbury station
