Overview

This walk is for up to 20 people, including the leader.

A leisurely walk primarily on farmland, and some woodland, with a few gentle slopes. Please ensure you bring suitable footwear, as it is likely to be muddy in places.

Starting from Welham Green Station, we will do a circuit around the east of Welham Green, before heading south passing Water End, where we will be able to see some of the buildings that make up the Royal Veterinary College.

We will then head west, crossing the A1(M) motorway on a footbridge, before joining a route called, aptly for St. Valentines' Day weekend, Love Lane, passing Cangsley Grove, before heading towards North Mymms. Here we should have time for a quick visit to St. Mary's Church (which has toilet facilities if needed) before having lunch by the War Memorial, just next to the entrance to North Mymms Park.

After this we will cross the A1(M) on another footbridge and join Dellsome Lane. We can have a quick stop to look at a trig point, and admire the views across to St. Albans, where we should be able to see an inflatable dome where Watford FC train. Returning to Welham Green, we will pass through town (look out for the Marks and Spencer warehouse) before returning to the start point.

Afterwards, those who wish to can join us for a drink at the Sibthorpe Arms, a short walk away from the start point.

Please note this walk is not suitable for dogs.

For information about walking with the group, including our dog policy, please visit the Stag Walkers website.

Booking your place: Please book your place using the free Meetup website/app. Join the Stag Walkers Meetup group and click the 'Attend' button on the event page.

Please do not turn up for a walk without booking, as places are limited.

If the walk is fully booked, click 'join waitlist' to get a place if one becomes available and please check back regularly in case you do get a place. The waitlist gives priority to single bookings so if you wish to bring a guest, we recommend booking separately.

Unless you opt in to further communications, we will only use contact information you provide to get in touch about the walk.

  • DON’T NO-SHOW on the day unless it is absolutely unavoidable (we do understand ‘life happens’) because it prevents others from enjoying a walk if it is fully booked.
