The walk is a revised version of the one previously published.
From the car park, we head south across Southborough Common and follow a minor lane past Caenwood Farm. Then it's through Hurst Wood and a climb towards Tunbridge Wells. We cross the Common and make our way to the town centre for lunch. About 5 miles and ascent of 500 feet/150 metres.
After lunch, the walk takes in Dunorlan Park and Hilbert Wood and then goes through the High Brooms area and Southborough to the car park. About 5½ miles and ascent of 400 feet/120 metres.
Hurst Wood is noted for its bluebells. The morning coffee stop will be at the northern edge of the Common and may be a little later than the usual 11am. There is Curleyvera's for coffee, the Wellington Rocks and public toilets.
After that, we will be on streets and pavements for the rest of the day. Some of the streets will be hum-drum.
We cross the Common and walk through the Pantiles. Then it's up through the old town and its small parks. Lunch will be quite early and will be in the town centre. Pub lunchers have the Wetherspoons in the old Opera House. For picnickers, there are seats dotted around the pedestrianised centre and the usual coffee shops for refreshments. Picnickers should not miss the chance to pop in to the Old Opera House for a look at its quite astonishing interior. And the tea and coffee is very cheap ...
After lunch, it's a long straight walk to the lovely Dunorlan Park. Then it's another walk through the St James district to the Grosvenor and Hilbert Park. We will stop there at the park's Cafe 8 for an afternoon break to rest our aching joints after all that pavement walking. Then it's up through the High Brooms district and back to the car park.
