We are the Surrey and Beyond Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
The Writers’ Way is a 13 mile trail linking Alton to surrounding villages. The trail passes by Gilbert White’s house in Selborne and Jane Austin’s house in Chawton. A short stretch of the trail is through Alton, and the rest is a mixture of paths and rural lanes through open countryside. farmland and woodland.
Picnic lunch, with pub and cafe for refreshments at the end of the walk. We will walk at a moderate to brisk pace. It is mainly flat and likely to be muddy if it’s been raining.
Car park next to The Selborne Arms (High Street, Selborne) Please note that the public car park behind The Selborne Arms is free, but the car park just beyond this belongs to Gilbert White’s House and there are charges.
