Walking in East Lothian and beyond
Welcome to the East Lothian Ramblers and Hillwalkers. We are a medium sized walking group whose membership is mostly drawn from Haddington and North Berwick.
We walk every week throughout the year, and all our walks are led by experienced leaders who offer a range of walks, and these are graded depending on the amount of ascent, descent, gradient and terrain.
Walking is not just for the ultra-fit, and you don't need to keep up a quick pace for miles on end. Anybody can join our walking club and enjoy the health benefits, friendship and adventure of discovering new places.
We would like to encourage people to join our club, whether it be to improve their health, make new friends or simply for the pleasure of exploring undiscovered areas on foot, our walks make enjoying the great outdoors easy whatever ability they have.
We also like to encourage our walkers to learn navigation and leadership skills, learning to use a map and compass, to enable them to identify where they are on the OS map, when out in the hills. These skills certainly boost confidence levels.
Walks for everyone
Whether you're walking to improve health, make new friends or simply for the pleasure of exploring on foot, our walks make enjoying the outdoors easy, whatever your ability. All our walks are led by experienced leaders.
Our walks are graded depending on the amount of ascent, descent, distance and terrain:
-
Level C: Up to 7 miles at a leisurely pace on good paths and tracks
-
Level B: Up to 10 miles which is moderately demanding with hills generally on tracks or paths at a moderate pace
-
Level A: Up to 15 miles with steep ascents and descents often over very rough terrain at a demanding pace
We have a good working relationship with the East Lothian County Rangers and some of our members help as Path Wardens and on working parties to repair the area's footpaths.
