Walking in High Peak and beyond
We are a long-established walking group based in the Peak District, south east of Manchester and Stockport. We were formerly New Mills & District Ramblers. Our large geographical area covers Derbyshire’s High Peak Borough area including the settlements of Buxton, New Mills, Whaley Bridge, Glossop, Chapel en le Frith and the Hope Valley.
We are a friendly and welcoming group that offers walks on Sundays, usually of 10 miles plus, shorter walks on Wednesdays and occasional Saturdays. Varied walks to suit everyone take place mostly in the wonderful Peak District National Park, which is mostly in Derbyshire but also extends into Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Staffordshire and Yorkshire.
It includes the moorlands of the nearby Dark Peak where the geology is gritstone and the White Peak, with its varied and interesting limestone scenery.
In summer we may venture further afield to North Wales, the Lake District or other places within reach of a day trip.
Our social events include occasional meals out, evening talks and short breaks away in Spring and Autumn (although suspended during the pandemic).
