Walking in and around Ipswich
We walk mainly in the beautiful, rural county of Suffolk and usually within 40 miles of Ipswich. The countryside covers Coast and Heaths - an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, rivers, estuaries, forests, and agriculture. Sometimes crossing into Essex and Norfolk and day trips to places such as London and Cambridge.
Our walks are led by a variety of experienced volunteer leaders, so all are different and of variable length and pace. Many are around six miles and completed comfortably in three hours, with stops, especially in hot weather. Some walks end with a café or pub lunch and longer walks have a picnic stop midday.
The group size is quite variable dependent on the weather but usually in the range 10 - 25. During the year we also have social walks with soup lunches or afternoon cakes. Whatever the length, location, and group size you will find the Ipswich Group warm and welcoming.
For more details about our group see our local website also accessible from the link above.
Our walking community
By walking with us you will have the benefit of walking in a safe environment and will go to places off the beaten track which you would not necessarily visit on your own. And not just off the beaten track, you can explore the area; it’s surprising how often people say, ‘I never knew about this place and it’s on my doorstep!’
Many people, singles and couples, often start walking with us after changes in their lives such as moving to a new area or retirement.
Ramblers have a love of the countryside, and it is always good to meet and chat with a variety of people from all backgrounds. There are of course numerous health benefits in walking and relaxing in the fresh air. Come and find out for yourself!
