Walking in Maestag
We are a friendly group of Ramblers, with a varied age group. Our youngest walker being just 12 and the eldest in their 70’s. We are based in Maesteg and usually meet in the town car park (outside Wilko’s) at 9am, unless specified otherwise in the walk details.
Many of our walks are in the local area, exploring hidden gems you’d never get to see by car or would even know existed. We also walk further afield, usually during our summer programme, and always car share to keep costs down. Our walks can range from 7 to 15 miles but always include good company and plenty of laughter en route.
How do I join?
It's easy, contact the leader of one of the advertised walks, whose contact number is on the sheet or on the Events programme page. You will be informed when and where the walk will start.
How much does it cost?
There is no charge for walking with the Ramblers , but if you walk regularly, you will be asked to join the Ramblers Association, membership includes discounts, e.g. senior citizens plus there is a 10% discount in several suppliers of walking equipment. A Regional and National magazine with information for walking with any Rambler groups in the UK is delivered four times a year.
What clothing is required?
It is recommended to wear appropriate footwear, (e.g. good walking boots/shoes and socks). It is wise to carry extra clothing such as waterproofs and a jumper as the weather can change very suddenly, especially on higher ground.
Refreshments?
On a long walk you should bring enough food and drink with you for a number of breaks, less on a shorter walk. It’s always wise to bring a little money too as we often stop at a cafe/ pub.
