Walking in Maldon and Dengie
Maldon and Dengie was established in 1999. We organise 12 or more led walks each month and we very much like to welcome new members. We mainly enjoy and walk the pathways in the Maldon & Dengie area but do go further afield.
For the Tuesday walks there is a choice of either a half-day walk, usually 4 to 6 miles, or a full day walk of around 10 to 12 miles with a break for a pub snack/lunch or take your own picnic if you wish.
The Sunday morning walks are usually around 6 miles. Almost all walks start at 10.00 am. In the mid-summer months, we also walk on Thursday evenings. There is a quarterly breakfast walk for the early risers.
The pace of the walks is set for enjoyment rather than endurance and is mostly off-road. We average about 2.5 miles per hour. A full day walk usually takes about two and a half hours in the morning, one hour for lunch and one and a half to two hours in the afternoon. Sometimes, but not too often in the wet, wind and cold. Countryside walking dress and footwear is strongly advised!
Joining our walking community
As well as enjoying the great pleasure of country-side walking, Maldon and Dengie Ramblers seeks to protect the interests of ramblers by keeping footpaths open and reporting any footpath problems to the Council. We have an active Footpath Maintenance Working Group, and a Parish Path Adopter scheme.
During the year we arrange various social activities, and you can join in with our summer BBQs, quiz nights, annual dinner and Christmas events.
You won’t regret joining our friendly group – if you have any queries or questions do not hesitate to get in touch.
