Walking in Manchester and Salford
We are the Manchester and Salford Ramblers, and we specialise in shorter walks around the parks and green ways of our two cities.
That doesn't mean that we are just walking round streets and pavements. There are loads of open and green spaces along rivers, canals, on reclaimed land and in the parks of Manchester and Salford.
We want people to know that there are fantastic walks on their doorstep and we do have days out in the glorious countryside around us, from the Cheshire plains to the hills of the Peak District and we have walking weekends away.
Our walking community
Our friendly group organises around six walks each month – throughout the year. Walks are held on some Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays. Monday walks are short and start at 11.00am. All Tuesday and Saturday walks start at 10.30 unless otherwise stated, and are normally 5- 6 miles, but we do include longer walks in our programme, particularly in the summer months.
We aim to hold walks that you can get to and from by public transport and will try to offer car shares when this isn’t possible.
We have pioneered two walking trails around Manchester and Salford – the Manchester Green Trail and the Salford Trail.
We have a varied social programme of walks, talks and tours providing a variety of 'meet ups'.
We inspect, clear and safeguard our paths and rights of way and campaign for policies to promote walking for all.
