Walk with us in Essex
Welcome to Rochford and Castle Point Ramblers. The group was formed in 1994 and consists of around 150 members, of whom only a small proportion take part in led walks. The average number of people on a led walk is around two dozen which is a good number if a lot of stiles are involved.
We walk every Tuesday morning, starting at 10:00, and also, less regularly, at weekends. Walks take place in the Rochford and Castle Point districts and the surrounding area, covering most of South Essex and with occasional forays into London and Kent.
Our walks are usually between 5 and 8 miles and are planned to finish around 1PM, sometimes with a convenient pub meal. There’s also a break about half way through the walk for coffee and a nibble, so don’t forget your flask.
Join our friendly walking community
The members are a friendly bunch, and company and conversation are considered to be an important part of our walks so you are sure to be made welcome. Most, but by no means all, Tuesday walkers are retired people but all are young at heart and have in common a love of walking and the great outdoors.
The Essex terrain is not especially challenging but most people are surprised to find that the county is not as flat as imagined but we haven’t lost a walker yet, so you are sure to enjoy it. Nearly all walks are classified as leisurely so are suitable for any reasonably fit person with appropriate clothing and footwear.
