Overview

This walk is mostly on tarmac paths with some firm gravel.

Did you know that Hammonds Pond takes its name from Archie Hammond, a market gardener from Upperby, who saw the commercial potential in the old flooded brick pits.  In 1923 Archie opened ‘Pleasureland’ where people could enjoy boating, the animal enclosures and dancing on a Saturday night.

Having celebrated its centenary last year Hammonds Pond continues to be as popular with people of all ages and is home to many water and woodland birds with many successfully nesting in the park.
