Maryport Wellbeing Walkers will meet on alternate Wednesday mornings at 10.30 am outside the Lake District Coast Aquarium, South Quay, Maryport, CA15 8AB for easy walks in the harbour and promenade area with spectacular views across the Solway Firth to the Galloway Coast on clear days. Promenade walks are wheelchair accessible.
Other walks may involve a few steps or short inclines. Walks range from 1 to 3 miles (1-1.5 hours), but can be shortened depending on the needs of the group, and the weather. The Promenade walk is suitable for all ages.
Some free parking available near the Aquarium, otherwise the Pay and Display parking on South Quay now costs £1.90 for up to 2 hours and £2.80 for 4 hours. The nearest bus stops are on the A596 near Netherhall Corner (opposite St Mary’s Church) or outside B&M, 10 minutes walk from the aquarium.

Easy walk from the aquarium to the end of the Promenade, with spectacular views of Scotland across the Solway Firth on a clear day. Hard surface and no inclines. Can be shortened if necessary. Plenty of rest stops available. Suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Max 3 miles, 90 minutes
Shorter version: As above but stopping for a rest at the Gazebo before returning the way we went. Time depends on how often we stop to look at the views, and how long we spend at the Gazebo. Distance 1.6 miles, 40-60 minutes.
Wildlife interest: Watch out for birds on the shore (oyster catchers, red shanks and ringed plovers), depending on the tide.
