Maryport Wellbeing Walkers will meet on alternate Wednesday mornings at 10.30 am outside the Lake District Coast Aquarium, South Quay, Maryport, CA15 8AB for easy walks in the harbour and promenade area with spectacular views across the Solway Firth to the Galloway Coast on clear days. Promenade walks are wheelchair accessible.
Other walks may involve a few steps or short inclines. Walks range from 1 to 3 miles (1-1.5 hours), but can be shortened depending on the needs of the group, and the weather. The Promenade walk is suitable for all ages.
Some free parking available near the Aquarium, otherwise the Pay and Display parking on South Quay now costs £1.90 for up to 2 hours and £2.80 for 4 hours. The nearest bus stops are on the A596 near Netherhall Corner (opposite St Mary’s Church) or outside B&M, 10 minutes walk from the aquarium.

This walk includes inclines and steps.
We will walk up Shipping Brow and Senhouse Street, then turn right down Mill Race to the end of Mill Street to explore the remains of the 18th century coke ovens, before ascending to Furness Road via 22 steps or a ramp. Take the path to the left to Mote Hill with views over the River Ellen and the Solway Firth. Explore the summit area of Mote Hill before returning to the aquarium via Furness Road and Senhouse Street. Wildlife interest: Watch out for swans and otters in the River Ellen.
