Get out and about with others in your community to enjoy a walk and a chat and enjoy the wonderful local surroundings. All walks last about an hour - shorter 30 minute walk options are available on most dates. After each walk there will be an opportunity to have a chat over a cup of tea and home-made cake in The VIC, Culgaith’s community café, where you can find out more information about our walk programme and details of other community events.
From the lodge, this walk leads down the picturesque no through road towards the very small hamlet of Udford. There are stunning views of The Pennines and the ‘fluorescent’ radar dome on the summit of Great Dun Fell. Also Cross Fell at nearly 3,000 feet, the highest hill on The Pennine Chain, is also visible from the walk. Cross Fell is infamous for the only named wind in the UK called The Helm wind and on many days the very distinctive Helm Bar can be seen hanging over it. Wildlife may be seen, including Fallow Deer and the Common buzzard, plus the elusive Red Squirrel hopping along the roadside wall.
