Overview

The walk will start in the car park at the end of Cavendish Dock Road near Ramsden Dock and Cavendish Dock.  We walk along the dock wall path to the old power station and then along to Westfield nature trail. We may go into the nature reserve depending on what the participants want to do.

Path is tarmac most of the way but is gravel/mud in the nature reserve

We will talk about the history of the area including airships, sea planes, paper mills, power station.

Enjoy views of Morecambe Bay, Piel Island, Walney Island, the urban landscape of Barrow and the Lakeland Fells in the distance (if it is clear!).  Look for wading birds and ducks on the dock and the mudflats.

There are no stiles but there is a gate which allows people and bikes through. Sometimes it is open.

For those who want to, the walk will be followed by an afternoon of games and chat at St Mark’s Church, Buccleuch Street, Barrow. Drinks provided but bring a packed lunch
