Overview

Are you interested in leading a route for your walking group? Thinking about volunteering a walk but not sure how to go about it? If so, why not join us at the Chequers Beer House in Stevenage to talk about walks, plan our summer/autumn walk programme and enjoy some food and drink.

Whether you’re an experienced walk leader or just thinking about giving it a go, come along and have a chat with other leaders and the Stag Walkers committee.

We’ll have various maps, guide books and information to help you put a walk in the calendar. If you’re looking for new routes to share with the group, want to meet other members to do a practice walk or co-lead, or if you have any questions about planning or leading walks, please ask and we can help.

All our group walks and other activities are organised by volunteer members and we encourage all Ramblers members to get involved. It’s fun, rewarding and might be easier than you think!

What about dinner?
If all this taking about walking makes you hungry, just step outside to find Bracey’s Pizza & Pasta food truck behind the pub. Delicious pizza, pasta & fries are served until 11pm and you can bring your food back into the pub to eat.

And if you’re feeling thirsty, the Chequers has 15 cask ales, 4 craft ciders, premium draught beers and soft drinks to choose from.

Where is it?
The Chequers Beer House, 164 High Street, Stevenage SG1 3LL.

There’s a car park around the back and it’s 10 minutes’ walk from Stevenage railway station.

How do I book a place?
If you wish to attend, please let us know you’re coming via the Stag Walkers Meetup group by clicking the ‘Attend’ button on the event page.

Please remember to edit your RSVP if you can no longer make it so we know not to wait for you.

Event Host: Al M / Alastair M / Gavin F

What if I can't make it?
If you can't make it to the social but might be interested in leading a walk, please email our walks coordinators Alastair and Gavin on stagwalkplan at gmail dot com or speak to any of the committee - we’re here to help!

You might also wish to join an online conversation with experienced and aspiring Ramblers walk leaders. These are organised by Ramblers central office and take place on Zoom. The next sessions are:

Tuesday, 16th July, 6pm

Tuesday, 20th August, 6pm

To register for either of these events, search for Eventbrite Ramblers Walk Leadership. Please note booking closes for the online sessions 24 hours before the event.
