Dockray, in Matterdale Valley, is in the Eastern Lake District a few miles from Ullswater. Dockray is an ancient Anglo-Saxon name. It was a name given to a person who was a trapper of small game; it literally means "cut the hare's tail.” Matterdale is a hidden away sort of place, off the beaten track and well worth walking. On this trip we have access to many of the Eastern Fells and the wonderful Aira Force. Dockray lies in the lee of Gowbarrow Fell.
