This dales walk starts from the lovely village of Alstonefield, visiting Wolfscote Dale, Mill Dale; Dove and Hall Dales, before crossing the upland to Castern, for a peek into the Manifold valley. From there we will return to Alstonefield via Hopedale. The lack of flowers and butterflies will hopefully be compensated with some fine views, if the weather is kind to us; and as ever, the fabulous limestone scenery of these dales.
Bring a packed lunch. There are toilets in Alstonefield at the start/finish; toilets and possible refreshments available at Milldale village; pub at Hopedale.
Bearing in mind this is the winter season, it is essential that walkers bring warm clothing, waterproofs; and that they wear strong waterproof footwear. Although escape routes are numerous on this walk, you should be prepared for adverse winter weather conditions, regardless of the forecast on the day. Underfoot conditions can be challenging, with slippery limestone, tree roots, boulders and muddy sections to negotiate.
