We’ll head along the Trent and Mersey canal past the Anderton Boat Lift, before a couple of short unchallenging ascents over 2 tunnels. We’ll eventually cross to the River Weaver before heading back, stopping for a drink at the Leigh Arms en route to our lunch stop (packed lunch required). Fully refuelled we’ll meander along the river past some locks and weirs, with a good chance of spotting a kingfisher or 2 (we spotted 2 on our reccie last year).
We eventually rejoin the canal not far from the boat lift, where you have the chance to stop and discover more about the history of the hydraulic lift. The visitors centre includes cafes, loos and a museum with a variety of viewing platforms. Those who don’t want to stay can carry on to the car park.
Much of the walk is flat and alongside waterways. We look forward to seeing you there!
