An old favourite, with excellent views. From the Boathouse pub (Heron’s Wharf), we will pass over the canal & up to Holland Lees through farmland.
Then we will take the old, steep, quarry path all the way up to Stone House. From there we will cross farmland to the edge of Beacon Country Park & the Visitor Centre, where we can have a coffee stop at the picnic tables. If we make good time, the Coppice Cafe will be open to purchase drinks and/or ice-cream. Toilets should be open.
From there we will cross the old golf course & have a short climb up to Ashurst Beacon where we will hope to see some excellent views. From there it's downhill all the way on our descend through Dalton Lees down onto the Leeds Liverpool Canal, for an easy 1 mile walk back to our start point.
The pub should be open for after-walk refreshments!
Please ensure you park on the road at Heron's Wharf, rather than in the pub car park. The pub opens at 12, so toilets should be accessible.
The Boathouse pub is an approximate 10 min. walk from Appley Bridge station.
This walk is not suitable for first-time walkers or those who are only used to short walks. There are approx. 8 stiles.
